💰 How Charging Cost Is Calculated
AutoDrive estimates per-drive charging cost using your average $/kWh and an efficiency assumption.
For each EV drive, AutoDrive estimates the cost of the energy used. The math is the EV equivalent of the MPG × price-per-gallon formula used for ICE vehicles:
(Drive Distance ÷ mi/kWh) × Average $/kWh
The average $/kWh is pulled from your most recent charging-log entries — the same number shown on the Charging Stats screen. The mi/kWh efficiency comes from your charging history when there is enough data: AutoDrive divides recent EV drive distance by recent kWh consumed. Until you have logged a few sessions, it falls back to a sensible default for the vehicle.
This is an approximation. Real efficiency depends on speed, terrain, climate-control use, regen behavior, and battery temperature — cold winter drives can easily be 30%% worse than warm summer drives. Logging every session and recording the odometer keeps the rolling average honest.
If you charge for free at home or at work, set the session cost to $0 — AutoDrive will weight those into the average and your effective $/kWh will drop accordingly.
