💼 Classifying Drives: Business vs. Personal

Mark every drive as Business or Personal and assign a specific purpose so reports and deductions stay accurate.

Every drive in AutoDrive can be classified as either Business or Personal, and within each classification you choose a more specific purpose. This lets you separate a Customer Visit from a Commute, a Medical run from a routine errand, and feeds future mileage reports for tax substantiation.

Where to set it. Open any drive and tap Edit. The Classification field shows two tabs — Business and Personal — with the available purposes under each. Pick the tab you want, then tap a purpose to apply it. The drive’s classification updates to match the tab automatically.

Default purposes. Each account starts with a built-in list:

  • Business: Business, Between Offices, Customer Visit, Meeting, Errand/Supplies, Meal/Entertain, Temporary Site, Airport/Travel, Rideshare
  • Personal: Personal, Commute, Medical ($), Charity ($), Moving

Purposes marked with a ($) badge are deductible under current IRS rules (Pub. 463 / Schedule A) and will be highlighted in the upcoming mileage report.

Adding your own. Tap + Add purpose at the bottom of the picker and type a label. The purpose is added to whichever tab is currently selected and is shared across everyone in your account group, so a fleet-wide custom label like "Job Site #14" is available to every driver in the group.

What gets defaulted. Drives in a Personal account group default to Personal, and drives in a Fleet account group default to Business — so a freshly auto-tracked trip almost always lands in the right tab without any input from you. You can still mark a drive as Unclassified by clearing the picker, and you can re-classify any drive at any time.

Sync. Classifications and purposes sync the same way drives do: an edit on iPhone shows up on the web within a sync cycle, and adding a custom purpose on the web makes it available in the mobile pickers immediately.
