🔧 Troubleshooting
🚫 Drives Not Recording
If drives are not being recorded, check AutoTrack, location permissions, and Low Power Mode.
If AutoDrive is not recording your drives, work through these checks in order. The first stop on Android should be the status dot under the AutoTrack toggle in Settings — it tells you at a glance whether detection is actually armed.
Both platforms
- AutoTrack is enabled — go to Settings and confirm the AutoTrack toggle is on. If it was turned off, drives will not be detected automatically.
- Location permission is set to "Always" (iOS) or "Allow all the time" (Android) — open your device Settings > AutoDrive > Permissions > Location. If set to "While Using" / "Only while using the app," the app cannot track in the background.
- The app has not been force-quit — swiping AutoDrive away from the app switcher terminates all background processes. Let the app remain in the background for AutoTrack to function.
iOS
- Low Power Mode is off — iOS restricts background activity when Low Power Mode is enabled. Turn it off from Settings > Battery.
Android
- Saw a "can’t track drives automatically" notification? — if location is set to "While using the app," AutoDrive posts a one-time notification the next time you drive without the right permission, because Android gives a background-started recording service no location at all in that state. Tap the notification to open AutoDrive’s system settings page, choose Permissions > Location > Allow all the time, then switch back to AutoDrive — detection re-arms automatically the moment you return to the app.
- Physical activity permission is granted — Settings > Apps > AutoDrive > Permissions > Physical activity > Allow. Without this, the activity-recognition wake path cannot fire. AutoDrive’s low-power location fallback will still detect drives, but with a longer delay.
- Battery optimization is disabled for AutoDrive — aggressive battery optimization (especially on Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Huawei devices) can prevent background receivers from firing. Settings > Apps > AutoDrive > Battery > Unrestricted (or Don’t optimize).
- Remove AutoDrive from "sleeping apps" lists — Samsung’s Device Care and similar tools on other OEMs will put backgrounded apps to sleep and cut off the wake paths. Add AutoDrive to the "never sleeping apps" list.
- Status dot is green — open AutoDrive > Settings and look under the AutoTrack toggle. A green dot confirms both detection paths are armed. An orange dot means one is unavailable (tap the row to jump to the permission screen). A red dot means detection is not armed at all.
- Google Play Services is up to date — activity recognition is provided by Play Services. Open the Play Store and update it if a newer version is available.
After verifying each of these, take a short test drive at normal road speeds. If the drive still does not appear, try restarting your device. In rare cases iOS or Android needs a restart to restore background location services.
If the issue persists after trying all of the above, contact support with your device model, OS version, and a screenshot of the AutoTrack status row so we can investigate further.
