🚗 Setting Up an Electric Vehicle

Mark a vehicle as electric so AutoDrive shows charging tools instead of fuel tools for that car.

AutoDrive identifies an EV through its vehicle type. When you add or edit a car under My Vehicles, pick the Electric vehicle type (or any type tagged as electric in the catalog). Once saved, every screen that depends on EV-ness flips automatically — no separate setting to toggle.

What changes when a vehicle is marked electric:

  • The Fuel dashboard tab swaps to Charging
  • The Gas Stations tab swaps to Charging Stations with a bolt icon
  • The Fuel Log UI is replaced with the Charge Log
  • Cost calculations switch from MPG × price-per-gallon to kWh-based math
  • Reports surface charging blocks (kWh, $/kWh, MPGe) instead of fuel blocks

If you decode a VIN that resolves to an electric model, AutoDrive picks the Electric vehicle type for you. You can change it any time on the vehicle detail screen — the swap takes effect the next time you open the dashboard.

The fuel_type field on a vehicle (Regular / Premium / Diesel / etc.) stays meaningful for ICE cars; AutoDrive does not overload it with an "electric" sentinel. EV-ness is driven by the vehicle type alone.
