📌 GPS Routes Look Inaccurate

Inaccurate routes are usually caused by signal interference from buildings, tunnels, or weather.

If your recorded routes look jagged, contain random detours, or show you driving through buildings, the cause is almost always GPS signal interference. This is a limitation of the GPS hardware in your device, not a bug in AutoDrive.

Common causes of inaccurate GPS readings include:

  • Tall buildings and urban canyons — GPS signals reflect off glass and concrete, placing you on the wrong street
  • Tunnels, bridges, and parking garages — solid structures block GPS entirely, creating gaps in the route
  • Poor weather conditions — heavy rain or thick clouds can weaken satellite signals

AutoDrive mitigates these issues by filtering out low-accuracy GPS points and applying route smoothing after the drive ends. Points with high estimated error are discarded, and the Douglas-Peucker algorithm cleans up the remaining path.

For the best results, start your drive in an open area with a clear view of the sky. This gives the GPS time to lock onto satellites before you enter challenging environments.
