⛽ Logging a Fuel Purchase

To log a fuel purchase, open the Fuel tab and tap the + button. Fill in the details of your fill-up to keep an accurate record of your fuel spending.

The fuel entry form includes these fields:

• Gallons — the amount of fuel purchased
• Total cost — what you paid at the pump
• Station name — the merchant on the receipt (e.g. Shell, Costco). Optional but recommended so the list shows where each fill-up happened.
• Odometer reading — your current mileage at the time of fill-up
• Fuel type — regular, premium, diesel, or other
• Notes — optional free-form notes

When you save a fill-up on your phone with location services available, AutoDrive also captures the station’s coordinates so it can pin past fill-ups on the map and aggregate prices by station over time. The capture is silent and only stored alongside the entry — you can leave the coordinates blank by entering the fill-up manually without granting location access.

Scan a receipt instead. On the Add Fuel screen, tap the camera-viewfinder icon next to Save to scan a pump receipt. AutoDrive uses your phone’s on-device text recognition to extract the gallons, total, price per gallon, date, and station name from the photo, and pre-fills the form so all you need to do is review and save. If a field doesn’t come through cleanly — faded ink, glare, an unusual receipt layout — just type it in; the form never blocks saving on a partial scan. Nothing leaves your phone: the recognition runs locally, the photo isn’t uploaded anywhere, and there’s no cloud OCR API in the loop.

AutoDrive calculates the price per gallon automatically from the total cost and gallons entered. Over time, your fuel log builds a history that powers fuel economy calculations and spending trends on the dashboard.

For the most accurate fuel economy tracking, log every fill-up and always record the odometer reading. Gaps in your fuel log will reduce the accuracy of MPG calculations.
