🎓 Permit Log
Track a learner-permit driver's supervised hours automatically. Every drive becomes a practice session — day or night, with conditions — and AutoDrive tallies progress toward your state's requirement, with a DMV-ready certificate you can export and verify.
The Permit Log turns a learner-permit driver’s everyday drives into a supervised-hour record — automatically. Flag the driver once, and AutoDrive logs every trip as a practice session (how long, day or night, and the conditions), then tracks the running total against your state’s requirement so you always know how many hours are left before the road test.
Turning it on for a driver
Open Account › Manage Drivers, edit the driver, and switch on Supervised permit driver. Pick the permit state (this sets the hour requirement), the permit start date (for the permit-hold countdown), and an optional default supervisor that pre-fills new sessions. The driver now appears in Logbook › Permit Log.
How hours are logged
Every drive recorded for that driver becomes a session automatically: its duration counts toward the total, and a drive that starts after dark (8 pm–6 am) counts toward the night-hours subset. AutoDrive also tags each session with the conditions it can infer — highway, city, rain, or parking practice. Historical drives are picked up the first time you open the log, so you don’t start from zero.

Tracking progress
The Permit Log shows three progress bars — total supervised hours, night hours, and permit-held duration — each measured against your state’s requirement, with a plain-English note of what’s left. Requirements vary by state (many expect 30–60 logged hours including a night subset, plus a minimum permit-hold period); the figures are editable if your state’s differ.
Progress reminders
You don’t have to keep checking the log. As a driver nears the finish line, AutoDrive sends a milestone reminder — when they’re within a few hours of the total and night-hour requirement, when the permit-hold period has elapsed, and when every requirement is met and they’re eligible for the road test. Each milestone notifies you once, not on every drive.
Reminders arrive by push, email, and in-app (the bell icon). To pick which channels you want — or set quiet hours so nothing arrives overnight — open Settings › Permit Reminders. These are independent of your AutoCare, Glovebox, and Tolls reminders, so muting one leaves the others untouched.
The DMV certificate
Generate certificate produces a clean, one-page Certificate of Supervised Driving — the driver, the hours logged vs. required, the supervising drivers, the period covered, and signature lines — ready to print for the DMV. Each certificate carries a verification code that looks like PMT-7F3A-92QK; anyone can confirm it at theautodriveapp.com/verify, where the figures are looked up on AutoDrive’s servers, so a printed certificate is tamper-evident.
If you ever need to invalidate a certificate you handed out, choose Revoke certificate: anyone who checks the old code afterward sees that it has been revoked. Generating again issues a brand-new code, so the old printout stays dead.
Your privacy
The Permit Log is for you and your driver. A certificate is shared only when you generate it, and the verification page shows only the hour summary — never trip routes or locations. AutoDrive does not sell location data.
