📍 Setting Up AutoTrack
Enable automatic drive detection so AutoDrive records trips in the background.
AutoTrack lets AutoDrive detect and record your drives automatically without you ever opening the app. To turn it on, go to Settings > AutoTrack and flip the toggle.
When prompted, grant the "Always" (iOS) or "Allow all the time" (Android) location permission. This is required so the app can monitor movement while it is in the background. If you select "While using the app" instead, AutoTrack will not work when the app is closed.
On Android, also grant the Physical activity permission when prompted. AutoDrive uses two parallel detection paths — activity recognition (the fastest, most battery-friendly trigger) and a low-power location fallback — so that short trips, highway-only drives, and delayed activity classification don’t cause a drive to be missed. The AutoTrack Drives row in Settings shows a live status dot so you can confirm detection is armed before you drive.
Once enabled, AutoDrive listens for the iOS Motion & Fitness classifier (or, on Android, Google Play Services activity recognition) to confirm you are in a vehicle. As soon as the system reports automotive motion with at least medium confidence, AutoDrive starts a drive — no minimum speed required, so neighborhood and parking-lot starts are captured the same as highway trips. The drive continues until the app detects that you have been idle for about 1 minute (configurable in Settings > Finalize Drive After), at which point it finalizes and saves the trip. After 15 seconds of being stopped, the active drive screen and Live Activity flip to "Finalizing drive…" so you can see the trip is winding down — if you start moving again before the timer fires, the drive resumes seamlessly.
If you decline the Motion & Fitness permission, AutoDrive falls back to a GPS-only detector that triggers after roughly 45 seconds of sustained movement above 5 mph. This works, but it’s slower and uses more battery — granting Motion & Fitness is strongly recommended.
AutoTrack is designed to be battery-friendly and will not drain your device significantly. If you prefer to control when recording happens, you can leave AutoTrack off and start drives manually from the Drives tab instead.
