📷 Scanning a VIN Barcode

Use your camera to scan the 17-character VIN barcode and auto-fill vehicle details.

Every vehicle manufactured after 1981 has a unique 17-character VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). AutoDrive can read this VIN directly from its barcode using your device camera, saving you from typing it manually.

To scan, tap Scan VIN when adding or editing a vehicle. Point your camera at the barcode and hold steady. The VIN is commonly found in three places:

  • Dashboard — visible through the windshield on the driver side
  • Driver-side door jamb — on the sticker inside the door frame
  • Vehicle registration — printed on your registration card or title

Once the barcode is recognized, AutoDrive decodes the VIN and auto-fills the year, make, model, trim, body, type, description (engine · drivetrain · transmission), fuel type, and estimated MPG. The VIN itself is stored uppercase and validated against the ISO 3779 check-digit rules before the vehicle is saved. You can review and adjust any of these values before saving. If the camera has trouble reading the barcode, make sure you have adequate lighting and that the barcode is clean and undamaged.
