What does the Permit Log do?
It automatically tracks the supervised driving hours a learner needs for their license. Flag a teen or new driver as a permit driver, and every supervised trip they record counts toward your state's requirement — total hours, night hours, and the permit-hold period — with a verifiable certificate at the end.
Is it free?
Yes. The Permit Log is included on every paid AutoDrive plan (Personal and Fleet) — it is not an add-on. Flag a permit driver and the hours start logging from their drives.
Do hours really log themselves?
Yes. Once a driver is flagged as a supervised permit driver, AutoDrive turns each of their recorded drives into a supervised session — with the date, the duration, and whether it was a day or night drive detected automatically. You can also add or edit a session by hand.
How does the state requirement work?
You set the permit state and start date on the driver. AutoDrive then tracks logged hours against that state's rule — for example 50 total hours including 10 at night, plus a minimum permit-hold period — and shows progress bars for each, with an "eligible" flag when all three are met.
What is the DMV certificate?
When the requirement is met, AutoDrive generates a printable certificate of the logged hours with a tamper-evident code (PMT-XXXX-XXXX). A DMV clerk or instructor can confirm it at theautodriveapp.com/verify — the figures come straight from our server and can't be edited on the PDF.
Can a parent and teen both use it?
Yes — that's the point. Invite the teen as a driver in your AutoDrive account group; they log drives from their own phone, and you (the supervising parent) see the progress and generate the certificate. Each permit driver has their own log.
