🔋 Battery Usage and Optimization
AutoDrive is designed to use less than 5% of your daily battery.
Background location tracking can be a concern for battery life, but AutoDrive is built to minimize its impact. The app uses optimized polling that only records a GPS point when you have moved more than 5 meters since the last reading. When you are stopped at a light or parked, it effectively pauses.
In typical daily use, AutoDrive consumes less than 5% of your battery. This is comparable to other apps that use background location, such as navigation or fitness trackers.
If you want to reduce battery usage even further, consider these tips:
- Turn off AutoTrack when you know you will not be driving
- Use manual drive recording for planned trips
- Keep your device updated, as newer iOS versions improve background efficiency
Note that enabling Low Power Mode on iOS may interfere with background tracking. iOS throttles background activity in this mode, which can cause drives to stop recording prematurely or not start at all.
On Android, aggressive battery optimization (especially on Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Huawei devices) can suspend AutoDrive’s background receivers and block drive detection entirely. If drives are not being recorded, open Settings > Apps > AutoDrive > Battery and set usage to Unrestricted (or Don’t optimize), and remove AutoDrive from any "sleeping apps" list. This has a negligible real-world battery impact because AutoDrive only runs its foreground service while you are actually driving.
